Becoming a Christian

Have you noticed that everything about life revolves around relationships? Our families, our partners, our customers, our colleagues … where there are people there is a relationship taking place. Becoming a Christian is all about having a relationship with God through his Son Jesus Christ.

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”.

Let’s break down this scripture.

God is the creator of all things – our universe, this planet, everything that’s in it, including you. God created people as the pinnacle of His creation and He chose to give us free will. God loves you passionately and knows everything about you, but He gave you free will to love Him back. The Bible is God’s love story about the relationship He craves to have with His people. Choosing to live life for your own purpose and not trusting God causes a separation from God.

The Bible defines this as sin. Romans 3:23 states “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Total separation from God in this life and the life to come is the punishment that we deserve for breaking God’s laws. But God had a great plan to bring us back into a loving relationship with Him through the sacrifice of His son – Jesus Christ. On the cross, Jesus took our punishment and became our substitute and freed us to live the best possible life.

We can enter into a loving relationship with God by simply believing what God has done by sacrificing His Son Jesus. No matter what you think you’ve done, God forgives you. All we need to do is believe that Jesus sacrificed His life, confess this with our mouth and receive his forgiveness. We then can have the richest and fullest life possible … a life with God forever.

When we turn back to God and place our faith in Jesus Christ, we have the hope and promise of eternal life! Life forever with our Creator!  We can start a new life by entering a wonderful relationship with Jesus … the author of love. Our choice is simply to accept his love for us. All we need to do is say a simple prayer like this …

“Lord Jesus, I acknowledge I have lived a life separated from you and have committed many wrongs. I ask you to forgive me and I ask you to be my Lord and Saviour. I choose to live from this day on with you as my Lord. Please fill me with your Holy Spirit and guide me from this day forward. Thank you Lord for loving me! Amen.
