For some, Christmas is a lonely and sad time of the year.
Bayside Church’s Community Christmas Lunch on Christmas Day is an open invitation for people of all ages and walks of life to gather and enjoy a traditional three course Christmas lunch.
The Lunch, in its 20th consecutive year, is free and can accommodate up to 300 people who, for whatever reason, may be alone this Christmas.
There is always a fun and festive atmosphere as no trimmings are spared. The meal usually consists of a soup, turkey and Christmas ham, Christmas pudding and fruit salad. Santa drops in; bearing gifts for the kids and some live entertainment is also provided.
“Christmas is a time of celebration that should be available to everyone. At Bayside Church we want to ensure that people have a choice,” said Scott Anderson, Community Care Manager.
“Loneliness can affect people of all socio-economic backgrounds and it’s often experienced when we see others around us having a good time and we are not involved.
“At Bayside we like to provide an environment where people from our community can ‘get involved’ by experiencing a warm and friendly place and make new friends over a meal.”
Over 80 volunteers give up their Christmas Day to make the Lunch possible. Anyone who would like to attend can book in by phoning Bayside Church on 9585 2455.
Donations and sponsorships from community organisations starting at $15 per person are sought.
Bayside Church Community Christmas Lunch is part of Bayside Church’s Christmas calendar which also includes Bayside Church Carols on 15 & 16 December.
